Network: WMS cabin

PW: rambler111

Heating and Cooling

Q - How do I set the temperature on the NEST thermostat?

A - Slide your finger on the side of the thermostat to adjust. Tap on the side to select.

Q - Why is the gas for the fireplace turned off? (May through September)

A - Running the fireplace while also running the air conditioner can cause the air conditioner to freeze up and use excessive power and propane. We turn off the propane to the fireplace between May and September.

Q - How do I light the FIREPLACE?

DO NOT RUN THE AC AND THE FIREPLACE AT THE SAME TIME.

A - Between October and April use these instructions for lighting the fireplace.

Q - How do I use the electric heater DOWNSTAIRS?

A - Between October and April use these instructions for using the downstairs electric heater:

Step 1 - Set the temperature and timing for the electric heater.

DO NOT RUN THE AC AND THE HEATER AT THE SAME TIME.

Step 2 - Turn OFF the heater. Verify the HEATER is turned OFF when checking out.

PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE THE HEATER ON WHEN UNATTENDED.

Clean Up and Supplies

Q - Do I need to put everything in a trash bag before putting it in the outside bin?

A - Yes! Our trash service will not pick it up if you don’t. Union County has a law to limit litter that requires ALL TRASH IS INSIDE A CLOSED TRASH BAGS.

Q - We have too much trash. It won’t all fit in the two trash cans provided. What should I do?

A - Take excess trash with you.

Q - We used up all the ______. (coffee, creamer, paper towels, laundry soap, etc). Is there more?

A - We provided a small amount of complimentary consumables like this so that guests do not arrive and then have to immediately go out to the store. If you are staying several days you may run out of complimentary items. You should provide for your needs after that.

Q - Why are there covers on the outdoor furniture? Can we use this furniture?

A - The covers are to keep the furniture clean and free of pollen, bird poop, and debris. Feel free to remove the covers and use the furniture. It would be helpful if you replaced the covers when you check out.

The Cabin and Land

Q - The grass in the yard seems tall and out of control. Do you mow the lawn and do other yard maintenance?

A - Excessive clearing of leaves and lawn mowing has caused significant erosion on our steep property. We are allowing the property to go back to a more natural state to help reduce the erosion. We believe that as it looks more like the surrounding woods it will be more pleasant to look at.

Q - The fire pit seems a little small?

A - Yes. We are in the process of building a bigger and more formal fire pit area, but are not quite where we want it yet. Come back and visit again and you should see improvements!

Q - Birds are bumping into the windows. Why are they doing this and how do I stop it?

A - During different times of the year, the angle of the light at different times of day and the territorial and mating habits of birds cause them to engage in this behavior. We have tried, and are trying, different strategies to deter this behavior. These strategies are not always successful. This is just one of the features of spending time in a wooded natural environment.

Q - I see cameras outside. What’s up with that?

A - We have three outside cameras. We monitor the parking lot, front door, and the lower level entry. Cameras are turned on between guests, before our guests arrive, and after guests checkout. We turn these cameras off during the time our guests are staying at the cabin. The cameras help us know when our guests arrive, when the cleaners arrive, and that the trash area is maintained properly. There are no cameras in the living spaces.
